Practical guide

Share Wi-Fi details with a QR code

Enter the network settings accurately and understand what the image contains before printing or sharing it.

Copy the settings carefully

Choose Wi-Fi in the generator and enter the network name exactly as it appears in your device settings. Capitalization and spaces can matter. Select the matching security type from the available options and enter the password without adding an accidental space at either end.

For a hidden network, use the corresponding option when available and appropriate. Do not select different settings simply because the preview looks convincing.

Understand what you are sharing

The code carries details that help a device attempt a connection, potentially including the network password. Turning those details into squares does not make them secret: someone who can read the image may extract them. Share it with the intended people and consider a guest network when available and suitable.

Avoid publicly displaying a code containing private network settings. Consider who could photograph a printed label, as well as who receives the file directly.

Try the intended device

Scan with a phone that supports Wi-Fi data and review the displayed network name before approving a connection. Operating systems and reader apps can behave differently; some may show text instead of offering to connect. Simple sharing formats do not represent every advanced network configuration.

If connection fails, check the entered details and confirm the device can reach the network normally.

Replace outdated copies

A static Wi-Fi code keeps the settings used when it was created. After changing the network name or password, generate a new code and replace shared copies. Add a clear label such as Guest network so people understand its purpose without printing the password alongside it.
