Decode a QR image and understand its contents

Read a saved image, distinguish links from structured data, and improve the input when a scan does not succeed.

Choose a clear image

Open the decoder and select an image from your device. Prefer the original file or a clear screenshot in a supported format, such as PNG or JPG. Keep the whole code and its surrounding space visible, and follow the file-size limit shown in the interface.

The image is processed in your browser. Reading a file does not mean the tool will open its links or send messages on your behalf.

Inspect the result first

The result may contain ordinary text, a link, network details or a contact card. Read the complete contents. For links, examine the domain and spelling before following them. A code containing a website address does not establish who printed it.

An authenticator setup address beginning with otpauth may contain a secret key. Treat it as sensitive information rather than posting it in a public comment or shared screenshot.

Understand extraction limits

Extracting encoded data differs from looking up additional information. A product barcode may yield only its number, without a price or manufacturer record. The tool cannot reconstruct wholly missing image data or make encrypted contents meaningful without the necessary information.

A successful decode establishes that contents could be extracted. It does not establish that every statement inside them is true or that a linked destination is safe.

Improve an unsuccessful scan

Try a closer, straighter image without glare, shadows or blur. Crop distant surroundings while retaining the complete code and its border. Ask for a better original when available. Difficult images and some barcode types can remain outside the reader's capabilities; no result does not prove that an image contains no code.
